WHO WE ARE
We are the Lowcountry Oyster & Motorcar Driving Society (LOMDS), which was founded in 1993 by former New Yorker, George Sztybel who fashioned our Club from a similar New York City Car club he belonged to, which was named "The Madison Avenue Sportscar Driving and Chowder Society.” They were founded in 1957 by Walter Cronkite and noted racing car announcer, Art Peck. In New York City, Chowder is as popular a delicacy as Oysters are in the Lowcountry of South Carolina; hence our name….
Our club is open to ALL automobile enthusiasts of any age who are seeking a non-political, non-partisan social group who share the same love and excitement for the automobile industry. The club is managed by an elected Board of Directors.
We are the founding club of the Hilton Head Motoring Festival & Concours d' Elegance which is considered to be one of the finest Concours in the nation and shows the first weekend of November on the Island.
So, if you love classics, antiques, modern, sports cars, muscle cars, exotics, or you just like cars in general, you will find something to enjoy as a member of the Lowcountry Oyster and Motorcar Driving Society.
We typically meet on the third (3rd) Wednesday of each month for a Club lunch/social usually with a Speaker from the Collectors Hobby or Auto Industry. We also organize and host various “road trips” not only to Car enthusiast locations (Like noted collector, Bob Jepson and Rick Hendrix personal collection in Charlotte, NC) and possible overnite driving tours, such as Jekyll Island for an off island “social” club event.
